What is a Visual Diary to you?
Amongst so many extensions and objects in our lives one thing that keeps me moving is a visual journal. Visual Journal for me is a free space to experiment, express my thoughts, draw, doodle, write and store ideas. It gives me the freedom to express myself. It gives me a sense of satisfaction when I complete a page, or try something new, or discover something new about myself. It is like recording a timespan of my life for forever physically on pages. I sometimes visualize myself with piles and piles of such books, happily flipping through them when I grow old and sharing them with others.
Visual Journal for a writer or content creator is a story or a narrative or a script, be it fictional or real. Some stories develop just out of our imagination which also reflects who we are and we conclude it as we want it. Visual Journal for an Entrepreneur is a Document as it is a very effective way to record facts. Be it formal or informal. Visual Journal is an experience for a person who likes to record things physically. This something that excites me the most. Be it a travel experience, or an experience from an event. Visual Journal acts as an inspiration for a designer, artist, or even an inspiration not for a project but towards real life too. Visual Journal as a daily record. Visual Journal is a reflection of yourself, the compositions heavy or light, the colors that you use, the kind of pictures that you paste, the topics that you talk about talk a lot about yourself. Visual Journal as a mood tracker as one records as one feels every now and then. Visual Journal reflects a style and speaks a lot about you as a person. Visual Journal is a therapy, it helps to clear your thoughts and priorities. It is also a Passed possession, some visual diaries are passed on from generation to generation with some family recipe or skill or technique. It is a secret for someone who prefers to write in a journal than to tell someone. Such secrets remain to the diary itself. Collecting such journals can be a Hobby for someone who likes to collect and store, It is a Stressbuster for someone who moves to his diary when he is anxious, It is a budget Tracker for an accountant or someone who wants to note his expenditure and savings.
Any object has so many connotations and perspectives to different people belonging to different backgrounds or systems and that is what makes the meaning of the object different to different people. What is a Visual Journal to you?
Reflection
As a very hands-on person, I like to record things physically in a book so that I can turn back to it whenever I wish to. Visual journal to me is ME. It is my own reflection as to who I am, what are my likes and dislikes and it is a space for me to try and experiment and practice whatever I wish to without any fear or pressure for the final outcome or result. This assignment helped my understand the same object holds different connotation to different people as so is the case with signs or symbols or language.
